WTM to cease

After a lot of soul searching I have decided that the October 2017 issue will be the last WTM. This is not a decision I have made lightly and after 32 years it will be sad to see it go but the simple fact is that there are not enough folk left in this sport to warrant it. I know that I said I would keep it going for a while longer after this was discussed a couple of months ago but that was before I did the sums and realised that this one is not viable. Every year during the summer months we historically lose 10-12 % of our subscribers which is largely offset by new folk coming along. Well this year has not been any different with regards to the losses but I can’t remember the last time I added a new subscriber to the database.

I have been running the magazine for the past 15 years and the last thing I want to do is cause this sport any problems.  How to cater for those that prefer their information paper based?

After a lot of head scratching on how best to proceed I have come up with this proposed solution.

I propose to produce a magazine in January, Yes it will have the beloved yearly calendar in it as well as all of the necessary entry details of every trial being held through the year (if practicable). If I can find other interesting content I will add that as well. Things like Trial Reports and Trial results and any last minute Trial updates will just have to go on the website as they are too expensive to print.

If you would like to pre-order the annual magazine it can be found here:

This brings me to subject of the website, how best to proceed? As most of you will appreciate running the website is fairly time intensive and whilst it is not as financially hungry as the printers it still needs to be fed. At the moment the trials societies bear the cost of advertising the trials and you then purchase the magazine to complete the package and between the two WTM just manages to keep its head above the water. As I said, the website doesn’t need anywhere the same amount sustenance, therefor starting in 2018 I am proposing to do away with charging the societies for adverts. From the 1st October, I am going to cancel everyone’s website magazine subscription and recurring Paypal payments. I am going to open the website up to everyone while I reconfigure it to be a subscriber only site, The exception will be the introduction to Working Trials section and anything else I feel will help entice newcomers. This I intend to expand upon over the dark cold winter evenings which are rapidly approaching.

For website access, I am proposing to continue to charge £24 per year or the princely sum of 46p per week.

Should you wish to subscribe to the website and gain full access you can do so here:

I would be grateful if you could let me know if a paper based Annual magazine is wanted, either drop me a line, text, email FB message. That way I can gauge if its wanted and how many to produce.

I am aware that this is not going to sit well with everyone but after a few months of head scratching it’s the best I have come up with.

All of us at WTM would like to take this opportunity to say a big THANK YOU for all of your support over the years.
