Enfield, Open Trial
- Open Trial
- Venue: Enfield
- Trial Held: 08 December 2013
STAKES: CD AND UD, WD C/A
Judge: RITA BANFATHER
Search Steward: Malin Lovell
Scribe: Clair Noon
I would like to thank ASPADS for asking me to judge the control and CD at their open trial at Enfield. Vana runs this trial totally on her own and very well she does too. Everyone is made to feel welcome in the dog trainer’s heaven training hall.
Vicky Lawes and Ross McCarthy ran the kitchen, a job they had never done before. They kept us well fed and watered, bacon in tiger bread and hot homemade soup. Trials run on a good kitchen - they did so well, thank you.
Clair Noon, very new to working trials, scribed for me, while Malin Lovell laid squares and made sure everyone was where they were meant to be.
We started each day with the CD squares. The grass was long so the articles were a good size, a piece of black plastic, a nice square of underlay, and 75 mm length of wood.
6 entered the CD and 5 competed.
1st Mike Williams with TADMARTON ELEANOR, Labrador, 100, Q. What a team when no marks are lost! This little dog, Tara, did not put a foot wrong, a joy to watch. Keep it up, Mike, she is a lovely dog - you will go far, I am sure.
2nd Nick Dunn with YUCOFARM AEGEUS, Malinois, NQ. Nick’s lack of trials knowledge did not help him and Max. Nice control - so nearly there, well done.
3rd Angela Gourd with SEZANNE LARENTIA, BSD, Terv, NQ. The down and scale cost them dearly, the rest was done with lovely attitude. Well done, Angela and Tia.
4th Henrietta Chidgey with BLACK KNIGHT OF ARDLEIGH, Crossbreed, NQ. Being a pointer/Lab, Bailey loved hunting more than searching in the square. I am sure it will all come together.
5th Sheila McKenna with MASCANI MENTOS, GSD. Dylan did a lovely search square, fast and enthusiastic.
Thank you all for competing under me and accepting my judging.
1st Les Allen with TADMARTON ENZO (Enzo), Lab, Q. 192.5 total marks with a 100% control round. Les, you worked that little chap like a dream - a joy to watch, a real team. Congratulations
2nd Claire Norton with DAISY HAYAT DOLU (Darcy), WSD, 174.5, Q. Very tidy round, lovely sendaway. No long jump, but I am sure you can get it sorted. Well done.
3rd Mike Williams with TADMARTON ELEANOR, Lab, B, 185, NQ.
4th Colin Ball with GARRETHALL REBUS, Lab, D, 177, NQ.
1st Lauren Marlow, JOTUNHEIM ELI (Aka), Malinois, 195, Q. Best pound you have spent in a long time, Lauren. You really have Aka working with you. It was such a pleasure to be able to judge you both.
2nd Richard Cornwell with VOMKYNA EAGLE (Griff), GSD, 188, Q. Griff loves working and struggles to keep all 4 paws on the ground, but when he does it’s all there. No long jump but I am sure that was just a glitch.
3rd Peter Dyer, CARMELITA ELITE OF KIRKVIEW (Jez), GSD, 187.5, Q. Another perfect sendaway; lost a few marks here and there and no long jump. Still, very well worked.
4th John Turtill, WAGGERLAND TAYOVULLIN (Tayo), WSD, 185.5, Q. Only losing one mark on the scale, but followed up with no down stay. Very well worked.

Thank you to the Society for asking me to judge my first nosework appointment. Thank you to Vana, the Trials Manager, for a well-run trial, and thank you to Sandra for laying the squares and keeping my nerves at bay. Thank you to Lee and Penny for laying the tracks as they should be. Thank you to Vicky and Ross for feeding and watering me out in the fields, and thank you to Janine for the use of her superb barn as the base and for organising a puppy crèche especially for Rory and Star.
Many thanks to Steve and Rita for putting us up for the night in the Banfather B&B. Lastly, thank you to the farmers, without whose land we wouldn’t be able to run trials.
Most of the competitors did some great tracks and squares and gave me little cause to take marks away. All the nosework was on well grown grass.
1st Les Allen with TADMARTON ENZO, Lab, D, 192.5, Q. Les and Enzo did a good track with 89.5 and 20 for their articles, then 28 for their square.
2nd Claire Norton with DAISY HAYAT DOLU, WSD, B, 174.5, Q. Claire and Daisy did a good track with 88.5 and 15 for their articles, then 23 for their square.
3rd Mike Williams with TADMARTON ELEANOR, Lab, B, 185, NQ. Mike and Tara did a good track with 89.5 and 20 for their articles, then 32 for their square.
4th Colin Ball with GARRETHALL REBUS, Lab, D, 177, NQ. Colin and Rebus did a good track with 89 and 20 for their articles, then 31 for their square.
Thank you to all the competitors for entering under me and for accepting all my decisions. To those who qualified - well done; to those who didn’t - better luck next time
