Venue: Tillmouth
Trial Held: 19 November 2016

Stakes: Intro and Special Veteran

 Judge: ALISON POLLARD

Steward: Sharon Dunn

Thank you to ASPADS for inviting me to judge the Introductory and Special Veterans Stakes. A big thank you to Trials Manager, Rachel, who helped Sharon and myself situate and stabilise the jumps and was there if we needed her at any time throughout the day. Thank you to the people who manned the base and to the kitchen staff, who provided some lovely food.

Thank you to my tracklayers, Jackie and Fiona, who did a sterling job. Another big thank you to my steward, Sharon, who can read my mind, which is very useful, I think, but who was great company and a good support.

A huge thank you to the handlers who were good company, worked well and accepted my decisions.

Stake: Introductory

Unfortunately, there were no qualifiers, but the 3 dogs and handlers worked amazing well.

1st           Mrs H Watson, BANDAITCH TRULLI PREMO, X-Breed, D, 89, NQ. What a great partnership and a fantastic round.  Unfortunately, the jumps were the problem on the day but no doubt this will be sorted. Full marks in everything else, so will be seeing more of this team in the future. Well done

2nd         Mrs J Suckling, STRETTONHILL KRISTA, GSD, B, 73, NQ. Another lovely team, working together.  The sit stay and the jumps again were the difficult elements on the day, but again I am sure will be sorted.  Well done.

3rd          Mr K Comerford, MEGARVEY MINI TOPPER,  G. Retriever, D, 58, NQ. Lovely teamwork, and relatively new to Working Trials, but worked well.  The jumps were a problem, but I am sure we will see this team in the future. Well done.

I hope the competitors enjoyed their day as much as I did. The weather was amazing, which helped tremendously.

Hopefully, we will see all of you in the future. Enjoy your training.

Stake: Special Veterans

Tracklayers: Jackie And Fiona

There were only 2 competitors but both worked so well.

1st           Mrs C Gordon, NNERUM FANFARAE, Cocker Spaniel, D.  What a great partnership. The track was great to watch. Otis decided to miss out 2 legs but went from article to article and then turned the correct way and finished the track. Great to watch. Fun track and fun articles for the dog and handler. Well done

2nd         Mrs L Cassie, TIGER LILY LEES, Springer Spaniel, B. Another lovely partnership, who are relatively new to tracking.  This partnership needed some assistance round the track, but I wanted them to enjoy the day, have fun and hopefully return to working trials in the future. Lily indicated on the articles, which really built up her confidence, and dog and handler came off the track feeling as though they had achieved. That is what it is all about. Well done.

I really enjoyed this stake. Very different from any of the other stakes, but great to watch and judge, and hopefully the competitors will return to take part in the future. Thank you

Steward: Shirley

Many thanks to ASPADS for asking me to judge the UD stake at this lovely, friendly trial.  It’s not often that a trial spans two countries, but I spent the day travelling between Scotland and England; thank goodness I didn’t need a visa!!  Jo and her helpers ensured that all ran smoothly on the day.  Thanks to the ladies in the kitchen for keeping us all fed and watered.  Thanks to Stevie and Sam for laying the tracks exactly as I asked, and to Shirley for your great company and being a fabulous steward, making all the competitors feel at ease.  Many thanks to the farmers for allowing us to use their land.

Tracking was on stubble and the articles were a 6” x 2” piece of green yoga mat and a 7” piece of hose.  Square articles were a wooden dolly peg, an 8” piece of blue rope, a 3” x 4” piece of black anti slip matting and a 2” x 6” piece of carpet.  The weather was cold but sunny with a light breeze.  There were 3 qualifiers at the end of the day.

1st           Doug Shearer with DREAGANTA DAUBYS DYNASTY, 191, Q.  Dauby did a lovely track and search.

2nd         Sue McCabe with EINHALOW’S PINT O’BLACK STUFF, 190.5, Q.  Fabulous team who work so well together.  Gentle handling achieving such a happy, eager to please dog. Good luck in the higher stakes.

3rd          Helen Kelly with CELTACASTUS NATIVE BREEZE, 187.5, Q.  Lovely teamwork today.  All your hard work has paid off.

4th          Veronica Errington with POLLGINA ROSEND SHANTI, NQ.  Ziggy worked so well today but just a bit uneasy with the stays.  It won’t be long before that qualification comes along.
