Tewkesbury, Championship Trial
- Championship Trial
- Venue: Tewkesbury
- Trial Held: 02 April 2005
Judge: JEAN HOWELLS
Steward : Dean Woodcock
Thank you to BAGSD for inviting me to judge the CD stake and the Championship trial. Thanks to Charlie and Martine and all the helpers for looking after us so well and feeding us in the evenings.
I had a lovely weekend and really enjoyed judging the CD stake. I was also luck with the weather which was warm and sunny - very different from the rest of the week when the trial was nearly washed away judging by the height of the river. Many thanks to Dean who layed all the squares and stewarded the control. He was a brilliant steward putting competitors at ease as well as being good company for the two days. Thanks also to Arthur for looking after the dogs.
As is usual with CD we had some dogs and handlers who hadn't competed before as well as seasoned trialists - which makes for quite a mixed bag. We had some really good rounds and ended up with 7 qualifying CDex and one qualifying CD.
Those of you who didn't Q keep trying - some of the dogs just lacked confidence as well as having to contend with their owners nerves.
1st Vicky Dixon with BLINK AND YOU'VE MISSED IT (CROSSBREED) B Q92.5 Marks mostly lost on heelwork - the rest of the round was brilliant. Very well done.
2nd Miriam Lyons with TAMERRYE MARAMELLO (BC) B Q90.5. Another lovely round. Well done.
3rd Marney Wells with BERAKA HURRICANE OF COPYHOLD (SBT) D Q89. Another good round. Well done.

My very special thanks to BAGSD for the invitation to judge at such a great trial ably managed by Charlie Taylor and his boss Martine. It was good to be part of a team that is so laid back that it just worked so well. Jackie Gibney made sure that we were well fed and watered - thanks Jackie. My tracklayers did a superb job in often difficult circumstances - pouring rain; and boots that were so clogged up with soft sticky mud that they all had grown in stature by the end of the day. It tells a lot for the dedication of my team when besides laying tracks they also judged or worked their dog. Thank you all very much indeed. We had one new tracklayer Dean who had previously laid U. D. but this trial he did extremely well laying W.D. for the first time. My steward who was husband Peter who worked extremely hard for me and the competitors - Thank you very much. Control was worked first in the morning and nosework in the afternoon. Tracking was on winter wheat with a growth of about 4 inches but the ground was very soft so some dogs and handlers found it hard going (and steward and judge too). We had 39 entries so it meant that we worked for 4 days though five teams scratched. I was impressed by the control and agility especially the sendaway - 200 yards to a big tree. There was a big difference in the nosework - it was either very well done with lots of attitude or just a few legs completed.
