Championship Trial
Venue: Flintham
Trial Held: 12 April 2009

TM, CD, WD Stakes

This year for our trial we had new tracking land and I would like to thank George Neale, Liz Price and her family for the use of farms. The Patrol field was excellent and very testing for the dogs (and the criminals) and had a superb view overlooking the River Trent. Thank you to Lis Warrior for helping organise the land has usual.

Thank you to all my tracklayers who gave their time – WD, Tom Darby, Maeve and John Weselby, PD, David Waite, Andrea Lynd and Lis Warrior. Thanks to Jan Darby for running the base and Jacqui Gibney for keeping everyone so well fed and watered.

I would also like to say a big thank you to David - he is so well organised it’s amazing. He sorted all the entries, walked all the fields and split them, transported the jumps and helped erect them, tracklaid and judged CD.

My judges - you were great company, David Waite CD, Nigel Hines WD, and Moira Rogerson PD. Thanks also to their stewards, Stevi Boyall in CD, June Hines in WD and Bill Richardson in PD.

I hope the competitors enjoyed the trial has much has we did. Congratulations to our ticket winner Dean Woodcock and Good Luck at the KCC’s.

Steward: Stevi Boyall

Thanks to BAGSD for inviting me to judge this stake, and also to Sheila and all her team for organising and running the trial. A special thank you to Stevi for doing a brilliant job stewarding. She was relaxed and friendly and gave all her instructions in clear and precise way, which hopefully helped to put the competitors at ease. It was a pity that only 8 dogs ran from 15 entries, but the quality of both dogs and handlers was impressive

1st Julia Skipp with ZAK OF SKIPAWAY, WSD, Dog, 92.5, Qual CDEx. A young and enthusiastic dog with bags of potential. HOL was the most costly exercise today. This team should go far.

2nd Ian Brown with TRI ONE JETRIL, WSD, Bitch, 89.5, Qual CDEx. What a beautiful little bitch this is, she worked really well and was the only team to get a full point square. The return on the scale proved costly, but another team to watch out for.

3rd Fran Atkins with BLEDRI OF STEPASIDE, WSD, Dog, 88, Qual CDEx. A very workmanlike performance from this team, just dropping odd points from different exercises.

4th Steve Smith with ALBESA A PERFECT STORM, GSD, Dog, 82.5, Qual CDEx. A broken down stay cost this team dearly today, all the other exercises were very competently performed.

The hard luck story of the day was Ann Fotherby with her very handsome young BC Dog, JACKOVALL IS IT ANY WONDER. They qualified CD with 79 points, but I’m sure it won’t be long before they gain a CDEx.

I would like to thank all the competitors for the way they presented themselves throughout the day to work, and the way they handled their dogs. It was a pleasure and a privilege to judge them. Good Luck to all the teams in future competitions.

Tracklayers: Tom Darby, John Weselby, Maeve Weselby

Steward: June Hines

Many thanks to BAGSD for the invitation to judge WD. Trials Manager, Sheila Tannert, ran a well organised trial with the help of David Waite. Jan Darby manned the base and ensured that all the competitors arrived on time and at the right place for their tracks. Jacqui Gibney was in the kitchen so we were very well catered for - thanks Jacqui.

We did the nosework in the morning and my tracklayers were Tom, John and Maeve - thanks to you all, and to June for stewarding. There was plenty of growth on the land, which was helpful for the tracking but some dogs struggled in the search square and only five managed to recover all four articles.

Control in the afternoon was in a ridge and furrow field, which made the heelwork different! Overall, the standard of the control exercises was very good but unfortunately, we lost some qualifiers on very good nosework marks in the stays.

Many thanks to all the competitors; I really enjoyed this judging appointment and had the opportunity to see some excellent work.

1st Heather Cook and THAMESPOL ISSIE, GSD, B, 189.5, Q WDEx and Best Nosework. One of those who found all the search articles and then went on to show us an excellent control round. A very worthy winner.

2nd Yvonne Carpenter and HEX AT CARFELD, BC, B, 181, Q WDEx. 86.5 on the track but only one article; otherwise, a good all-round performance including a full mark sendaway (won’t mention the heelwork!). Well done.

3rd Allyson Tohme and JAKE AT JOTUNHEIM, GSD, D, 180, Q WDEx. What a blinding track – 88 marks – just missed an article in the square, but apart from that Arrow proved himself very well.

4th Andrea Lynd and REBARK BUBBLY PEG, Lab, B, 175.5, Q WDEx. Well done Andrea, a lovely track but only two from the square. The control was excellent though, with nine for the sendaway, one of the best ones.

Also qualifying WDEx:

Rosie Jones and DREAGANTA GALLADUBH, BC, B, 174

Caroline Martin and BINTIBN ARDESSIE, BC, B,173

Cath Phillips and TYGUARD CHILLI AT MANPOL, GSD, B, 161.5
