TRIALS MANAGER’S REPORT

Entries were only slightly down on last year and the weather although windy stayed dry.  The Red Lion, as always, provided an excellent base and the farmers once again supported the trial.

This year I struggled to get help so it made the support of people who regularly help at this trial even more appreciated.  I realize that I can’t expect them to always be able to give so generously of their time but once again Annie Thorpe, David Barker, Anne Shepherd and Gill Cooke made themselves available for all three days.  Jennifer Speake too was there for the duration, also fulfilling the role of trial secretary.   Thanks to Ruth Cahill, who had to listen to me moaning and volunteered to UD tracklay where she was joined by Bob Shropshire - thank you, Bob.  I like to have newcomers helping out and Brian Hartree answered my call and did UD squares.  Cath Channing did the TD squares and Kate Peyton stewarded for Kate Wykes.  Jenny Orchard ran the base for one day and baked cakes - wonderful!

I would like to make mention of Chris Wilson.  Chris has run the base for the last few years but I’m very sorry to say did not feel up to doing it this year.  You were missed.

The judges, Ann Clarke, Norma Ansell, and John West were great, and Kate Wykes apart from judging the Intro stake also provided a cake, thank you, Kate.

Last but not least, thanks to the competitors for entering and then being where they were supposed to be as requested - you made everybody’s job much easier.

Chris Gregory

STAKE: INTRODUCTORY

Judge: KATE WYKES

Steward: Kate Peyton

Thank you to the Society for asking me to judge; I really enjoyed my first judging appointment.  Thank you to Chris for being the trials manager and to Anne for doing the scores.  A very special thank you to Kate for stewarding for me and putting the competitors at their ease.  I was fortunate enough to judge these competitors at Banbury’s progress test a few weeks ago, and I would like to say that I was most impressed with their improvement since I last saw them.  Well done to them for their continued training and the input from their instructors.

1st Miss Katherine Tollemache with KISINANA BRIG, Lab, D, 93.5, Q.  Pepper is a large black Lab; Katherine has worked hard on his nosework since I last saw this dog at Banbury’s progress test.

2nd Mrs Nicky Crowther with RAGLAN BEAUFORT BOMBER, X, D, 86.5, Q.  Rags is a large Labradoodle; Nicky had to work quite hard to prevent him from going hunting when he was doing his square.  Good luck at Leamington in CD.

3rd Mrs K Kendall with ROAMINO CHARLIE, X, D, 75.5, NQ.  Unfortunately, Charlie broke his down stay but the rest of his work was much improved.

Thank you to all the competitors for entering under me and for accepting all my decisions.  Keep training and I look forward to seeing you at future trials.

STAKES: CD, AND UD, TD CONTROL AND AGILITY

Judge: JOHN WEST

Steward and CD squares: Gill Cook

Thank you to BAGSD for inviting me to Judge the CD and the stakes’ control and agility rounds.  Chris Gregory kept a good control on all the competitors being in the right place at the right time.  The base was manned each day with a different steward, so thank you to Jenny Orchard, Anne Shepherd and Jennifer Speak, and I believe that food was supplied to the individual judges by the different stewards - thank you for keeping me well fed.  The most amazing thing was that this time of year I was able to Judge for the three days in trainers and shirt sleeves.  I will leave the comments for UD and TD competitors to their respective nosework judges; the CD was narrowly missed, mainly with the jumps and not the stays as normal.
