Venue: North Boarhunt

Stake: CD

Steward: Malc Snowden

Many thanks to Hampshire WTS for the invitation to judge the CD Stake. Jean, many thanks for all your hard work and sleepless nights to enable this great trial to run. Thank you for opening up your lovely home to us. May I say what a wonderful team of helpers you have – the endless supply was really great. Thanks you all.

The CD had 15 entries of which 10 competed, and 8 completed the nosework with qualifying marks. The control round was nicely worked, but unfortunately 6 dogs didn’t gain enough marks on the jumps, so I finished up with 4 very well deserved qualifiers.

1st           Jenny Richards with AMBERSLADE MASSACHUSETTS, ASD, 96, Q. Well done, Jenny, a lovely round – a pleasure to watch.

2nd         Sheila Jack with STORMLAKE BROOKE, GSD, 89.5, Q. Again, a nice round, just dropping odd marks on control and jumps. Well done.

3rd          Jean Cooke and WAGGERLAND GREY MONTY, WSD, 88.5, Q. With Jean’s gentle handling on the nosework and very nice control and jumps, this team did well.

4th          Dave Currier with MINIMOKES ELBA, GSP, 81, Q. Well done, Dave.

Thank you to everyone for competing under me; I enjoyed judging you all. Good luck to everyone in your future trials.

Tracklayers: Caroline Martin, June Hines

Steward: Sandra Haim

Many thanks to Hampshire WTS for the invitation to judge the UD stake at their championship trial. Sandra and I had a nice couple of days down in Hampshire - we enjoyed great company and had some nice young dogs to judge.

Many thanks to Trials Manager, Jean Howells, for her hospitality, and for running a good trial despite all the problems over the land. Many thanks to all the team at Hampshire, especially all those in the kitchen for keeping us fed. Special thanks to Caroline and June for tracklaying over the two days and to Sandra, who laid the squares and stewarded the control round.

We had 13 entries and 11 dogs competed. The standard was very good and it was a pleasure to watch these enthusiastic young dogs working.

1st Angela Fields with TARNEDGE ACT OF FAITH, Labrador, B, 195.5, Q. Excellent all round performance from Finn; only lost 1.5 on the track, 0.5 on the square, 2.5 on control with full mark jumps. Well done, Angela.

2nd Ann Clarke with TADMARTON EVITA, Labrador, B, 194.5, Q. Well done, Ann, nice track and square (although I’m not sure how you kept up with her on the track). Ember only lost 1.5 on control and had full mark jumps. Lovely to watch.

3rd Tim Cooper with GLORIOUS GLOSTER, Cross, D, 189, Q. Good performance from Boko. Second attempt at the long jump today, other than that you both worked to a high standard. Well done.

4th Vana Moody with GLENALPINE RISA, Border Collie, B, 187.5, Q. Vana and Risa did a nice track and square, only lost 1.5 on control with a full mark sendaway. Unfortunately no long jump today due to Vana giving Risa the wrong command (oops!) still gained a very worthy qualification. Well done.

 Also qualified UDEx:

Sheren Perez with KAEFFER KAL, WSD, B, 183

Roger Shrimpton with STARDELL ZUBEN, BC, D, 180

Kate Peyton with ASTLEY FLEET, BC, D, 173

Heather Hardaway with VIKKAS CRUISE OF BURNAWAY, GSD, D, 172

Stake: WD

Tracklayers: Gary Martin, Eric Carpenter and Yvonne Carpenter

Steward: Joan Snowden

Firstly, I would like to thank Hampshire WTS for asking me to judge the WD stake. A very big thank you to Jean – your hospitality was second to none. Your group of helpers did a wonderful job and the kitchen helpers were great and the food was fantastic.

Tracking was on lush grass, thanks to Jean! (It was nearly going to be stubble) Thanks to my tracklayers, Gary, Yvonne and Eric, who all did a great job. Thank you, too, to Joan for laying the squares and stewarding the control. The tracking conditions were superb, with all dogs qualifying the nosework.

1st           Mrs Margaret Robinson with JUST ARRAN AT TRENTVALLEY, WSD, 196, Q. A lovely round from an experienced handler.

2nd         Mr Les Allen with TADMARTON ENZO, Lab, 189.5, Q. Very nice round, well done.

3rd          Mrs Sheila Tannert with TARNEDGE WISP, Lab, 183, Q. Lovely nosework and a happy handler. Well done, Sheila.

4th          Mr Graham Blake with TOBIAS COLLIER, WSD, 183, Q. On equal marks with Sheila. I gave the placings on the higher nosework marks, as both competitors were on earlier days.

Also qualified:

Mrs Sharon Carter with QUADET DANSA AT IVYMOOR, WEIM, 179

Mrs Susanne Jaffa with DITSY DOT, X-Breed, 178.5

Mrs Rosemary Turner with KHAMYSKER KALAMITY KATE, GSD, 178.5

Mrs Susanne Jaffa with JANALLA BAROUQUE, BSD, 170.5

Mrs Frances Webb with NORWULF LUIGI, GSD, 169

Mr Colin Ball with GARRETHALL REBUS, Lab, 167

Well done to everyone.

Square + C/A Steward: Jeff Poole

Tracklayers: Tom Darby and Nigel Hines

Many thanks to Hampshire Working Trials Society for the invitation to judge and to Jean Howells for the massive amount of work put into organising the trial. Managing a trial can be a headache at the best of times, but this year proved even more stressful for Jean; the possibilities for the tracking were grass or stubble, so thank you so much for securing the grass for us. The weather was dry and for the most part sunny all week, and with the grass shorter this year the dogs had to work harder on it. Thanks also to Jean and Arthur for being such good company, and thank you for looking after us so well.

Jeff, thank you for a super job, as always, with all the squares and the C/A, also to my two tracklayers for the week - you did a brilliant job, thank you so much for giving up your time.

Thank you to Jan Darby, doing a great job in base as always. We were sorry to hear that Jan was taken ill again a few days after the trial, get well soon. Another big thank you to everyone in the kitchen who do a fantastic job, we were so well looked after, and all those cakes!!!!

Lastly a really big thank you to all the farmers for the use of their land and for the use of the hall.

I always enjoy watching dogs and handlers working together, we were treated to some lovely rounds. Thank you all for giving me the opportunity to judge your dogs.

1st Margaret Robinson and WTCh JUST FRANKIE AT TRENTVALLEY, CDEx – TDEx, 212, Q. Track 97.5 + 30; Sq 35; C 29.5; Ag 20. In the lead after the nosework and despite a slight hiccup on the sendaway, put in a good C/A round to secure the Ticket. Well done, Margaret and Frankie.

2nd Andy Baker and WTCh SID THE LEMON SQUEEZER, CDEx – TDEx, PDEx, 209.5, Q. 97 + 30; 35; 27.5; 20. Just half a mark behind Margaret after the nosework, Andy and Sid are always so consistent, however, the re-direct proved costly today.

3rd Tony Lockyer and WTCh LAWINICK COME N GET IT AT HARTSHILL, CDEx – TDEx, 208, Q. 96 + 30; 33; 29; 20. Well done, Tony and Isla, another lovely nosework round putting them in the cards again.

4th Sue Ashby and WTCh THE TITAN, CDEx – TDEx, 201, Q. 92.5 + 30; 30; 29.5; 19. Another team who are very consistent and always a pleasure to judge. Well done, Sue and Titan.
