I would like to thank Frances Ball and the Iceni committee for the invitation to judge UD and WD nosework at this very well organised Open W/T. My accommodation was great and I was looked after from start to finish. We had 2 great nights out and the food and company was good - thank you. Frances has everything under control, as you would expect, and so resulted in a really good weekend.
My experienced tracklayers laid every track as I wanted and we had no problems. They were great company and we certainly enjoyed our time together - thank you. My search steward and chauffeur for the 2 days was Caron, who again could not be faulted and was good fun - thank you.
We had 11 UD and 10 WD competitors, of which 9 UD and 7 WD turned up to work. The fields were wheat with a growth of about 5 inches and it was quite thick. A big thank you to the farmer for permission to use his land.
The weather on Saturday was very windy and overcast; it did rain once as Paul Beasley was tracking but luckily it didn’t affect Paul’s dog and they completed a good track. Sunday was completely different as we had glorious sunshine and only a slight breeze. In UD we had 3 gaining a COM and in WD we had 5 gaining a COM. They were as follows:-
1st Diane Turner with STARDELL SUBRA, BC. Only losing 1 mark on the track, this was very nice to watch. Well done. 89 + 20 + 35, COM, also won Best Nosework Trophy
2nd Michael Loughran with GARRETHALL QUADRILLE, Lab Ret. A very excited Michael was quite surprised to have been successful but it was well deserved. 87 + 20 + 34, COM.
3rd Lé Newman with STARDELL LEDA, BC. Great track, but we were amazed that you managed to stay upright with such a powerful dog. Well done. 88 + 20 + 31, COM.
4th Chris Theobald with XANDOA ABBYLON AT TYTRI, BC. Good nosework unfortunately not quite enough control and agility marks today. 84 + 20 + 35, NQ.
1st Nathan Wilson with SPECIAL GIFT, Weim. A well deserved win. Nathan had total control and also respect from his dog. This team will go to the top. 84 + 20 + 34, COM.
2nd Wendy Beasley with STARDELL LUNAR, CDEx, BC. Really struggled on one part of the track but didn’t give up and recovered well to complete the track. Well done. 78 + 20 + 35, COM.
3rd Paul Beasley with STARDELL SPICA, CDEx, BC. Paul started his track in the dry but then half way around the heavens opened, but Paul and Spike managed to complete the track - well done. What a day for Stardell dogs! 80 + 20 + 35, COM.
4th Ken Coleman with SHERINGEM MAC, CDEx, BC. Mac worked hard; he struggled on one part of the track but didn’t give up. A well deserved qualification. I know that Ken puts a lot of work into training Mac and it shows; with only 4 trials entered and 4 qualifications this team will do well. I am very proud of you both. 74 + 20 + 31, COM.
Also gaining COM:
Ann Trodd with BAILLIE OF CHELASA, CDEx, UDEx, Cross, 76 + 10 + 28
Best Nosework was awarded to Nick Brunner with EASTER PRINCE, CDEx, UDEx, Cocker Spaniel. Well done, Nick, it was nice to watch. 86 + 20 + 34
Congratulations to everyone who qualified. To those who didn’t - if your dog didn’t track you wouldn’t have entered so don’t give up; your day will come soon.

Thank you to Iceni for the invitation to judge the TD nosework, and to Frances Ball, the Trials Manager, for organising and running another open trial, along with the club’s loyal band of helpers.
No complaints about the weather this year, and the crop was growing nicely. All tracks were in the one field, so conditions for all competitors were the same.
Finally, I must thank my tracklayers and steward for doing a first class job. Thank you.
1st Lee Payne with LITTLE ROUGH RHINESTONE, CDEx – WDEx, X-Breed, 207.5, Q. Lee’s patience and experience paid off today, with all articles recovered. Well done.
2nd Sheila Tannert with STYPERSON CLEO, Lab, 207.5, Q. Another experienced handler who recovered all articles and ended with the best track mark. Well done.
3rd Diana Turner with LUCY GREENGAGE, BC, 203.5, Q. A nice steady track by this team; they should do well in Championship Stake. Well done.
4th Julie Atkins with GLENALPINE REG, CDEx, UDEx, BC, 199.5, Q. Well done, Julie. A nice track but that missed article in the square was costly on this occasion.
Len Newman with SALLY BELL, CDEx – WDEx, 199.5
Liz de Unger with STYPERSON ROYCE, Lab, 190
