Many thanks for the invitation to judge. I was asked if I would replace Bill Hardaway, who was ill and could not take the appointment. Hope everything is OK, Bill. Having judged in Ireland before, I felt privileged to be asked again. Many thanks to Anne Collen for making June and me welcome and looking after us so well. Thanks also to Miriam Lyons and Marjorie Briggs for the super meals.
Thanks to all the tracklayers and helpers who made it such an easy job for me. Tracking was on winter wheat with a little growth, although with the rain we had, it was quite sticky ground. The control was in a large grass field that had recently had cattle in. Although I didn't have many qualifiers, most competitors had a good attempt at the tests. Everyone was supporting each other and there was lots of friendly banter!
1st LATCHET'S BOSS (GSD) handled by Jeff Poole. 183 Q Ex A lively young dog in experienced hands made it a pleasure to judge. Well done, Jeff.
2nd OCEAN STAR (Lab) handled by Liam Ward. 170.5 Q Ex Another capable dog handled well by a newcomer to trials who looks as though he's got his training right. Well done, Liam.
3rd XANDOAS DARGO (WSD) handled by Caroline Woods. 161 Non Q Just missed out on the control section. Hard luck Caroline, I'm sure it won't be long before your're qualifying.
1st BEESTING WICCA (BC) handled by Jenny Hickey. 75 Non Q She was tracking well until she got lost - hard luck.
1st RICHTA REBEL ROUSER (BC) handled by Diana Collie. 151 marks Non Q Although this team didn't qualify, they showed a good standard and I'm sure that with Diana's experience it will all come together.
2nd FIRCROFT DOON (BC) handled by Judith Owens. 141 Non Q Another good dog, losing its way on the track. Professionally handled by Judith.
3rd WT Ch KALIYON SHEEFRA (WSD) handled by Miriam Lyons 114 Non Q They struggled on the track but did a full mark square, followed by a good control round. Hard luck, Miriam.
I know I've said it before, but if anyone gets invited to judge in Ireland, it's really worth the trip - such a great bunch of people and the Guinness isn't bad either!
