Trials Manager's Report

Thanks to all the helpers who gave their all to make this trial a success.  It goes without saying, but big thanks to all the farmers who let us use their land.

The running of this trial was a test in itself when we found out what we couldn't use the Lincolnshire Showground because of a fireworks display.  We therefore had to use our CD field for the Control and Agility and transfer CD to our club field, some distance from the venue.  It now shows that our past concerns about losing the Showground due to a few competitors not following the rules would probably result in the cancellation of our Championship trial.

Very big thanks to Jean Morley for all the work she put into the trial before she went into hospital.  She managed to leave us all precise instructions for everything that needed to be done!  Thanks also to Peter Morley for all his help - he's always on hand before the trial to help set up the land and this time he had to fit in trips to the hospital as well.  Once the trial started, he fitted in the TD stewarding and he and Jean also put up some of the judges and helpers in their home - it cant have been an easy time for you, Pete!

Thanks to Malc and Joan Snowden for their hospitality in putting up June and myself, alone with judges and helpers.  To the kitchen staff, Bob and Sue (hope you're OK now, Sue), Annie and Jenny.  You all did a fantastic job.

Lastly, I would like to thank June and Joan for taking over the base and all the judges - Suzanne, Paul, Jules and Andy - for setting good tests and making my job so easy.

Thank you to LGSDABTS for the invitation to judge.  Well done to Nigel Hines and his helpers for running an excellent trial.  Well done to June Hines, first time in the base and everything went like clockwork.

There were 3 entries and 3 worked but unfortunately only 1 qualifier.  The work was good and for the 2 non qualifiers it just requires polishing up.   And a big thank you to Carole on excellent steward and great fun to be with.

1st           TIA handled by T. Addison.  96.5.  Well done.  Tia only lost 2 on the control, 0.5 on the retrieve.  Q and 1 in the square.

2nd         LEO handled by C. Johnston.  N/Q/  Some nice work but the jumps let you down.

3rd          MONTESSA handled by K. Tiffany.  N/Q.  Some nice work from this rescue dog.  Unfortunately Montessa didn't like the stays.

I would like to thank Lincoln for the invitation to judge the control and agility.  Thanks must also go to Nigel and his helpers, they did a superb job, with June and Joan standing in at the base for Jean Morley who had to go into hospital (hope you're well on the way to recovery Jean).  To Bob and his helpers in the kitchen for keeping us well fed and watered, last but not least my steward David who can be relied upon to make sure all the competitors are put at ease and given the correct instructions, thank you David.

Tracklayers : Alan Davies and Joan Snowden

Thanks to Lincoln Society for the invitation to judge UD nosework at their friendly, well run trial.  Thanks to Nigel, the Trials Manager who made sure everything ran smoothly.  June and Joan ran the efficient base and Bob, Annie and Jenny in the kitchen.  Jean and Pete kindly provided the B&B - you are both great hosts - thank you.  I hope your foot is on the med Jean!  Thanks must also go to my tracklayers and square steward who all did an excellent job.  The weather was quite mild, for November!! We had drizzle on both days which didn't seem to affect the high standard of tracking, which was on winter wheat.

1st           Dave Marchant with WAGGERLAND MURPHY (WSD) 11/03/03 (MURPHY) Track 87.5, articles 20, square 34, gun 5. Total N/W 141.5. Dave's young dog did a lovely track and square.  Good luck for the future.

4th          Ann Bedford with WOLFHARTS DARK ISLANDER (GSD) 25/07/02 (RHONA).  Track 85.5, articles 20, square 23.5, gun 5.  Total N/W 129.  Ann and Rhona gave us a little scare on the last leg of the track, but recovered well.  Rhona not really interested in the square, but Ann handler her well and got 3 articles out.  She is lovely Ann, good luck for the future

Andrea Lynd with ACREOAKS APHRODITES LOVE (BOXER) 30/06/01 (MOLLY).  Track 84.5, articles 10, square 21, gun 5.  Total N/W 115.5.  Molly took her time on the track, very interested in what was going on in the world, and Andrea never noticed the last articles!  Really enjoyed her square, Yippee Molly said, but Andrea handled her very well and managed to get 2 articles out when Molly settled down.  This dog is a credit to Andrea's training.  She is not easy, best of luck in the future with her.  What fun you will both have!

Nose nosework but not qualifying in control - Christine Stewart with her young standard poodle DUNCAN.  Total N/W 143.

Judge: SUZANNE PLUMB

Tracklayers: Geoff, Trevor, Andrea & Andy

Search Steward: Pete Morley

Thank you to Lincolnshire GSD & All Breeds Soc. for the invitation to judge at this trial. Also, a big thank you to Nigel Hines and his team -  Joan, June, Bob and the helpers in the kitchen all making sure that the trial ran smoothly

All tracking was on short sparse corn in the same long field and for the first two days the weather was cold windy and dry, the third and fourth day were wet and warmer with a slight breeze. However, the handlers and dogs found the going hard over the four days and only five teams managed to get around the track.

I had an excellent team of track layers and each one got one dog and handler around their track with Andrea managing two. Pete, my search square steward laid thirty squares with not one failure. You were all such good company and kept me cheerful as team after team were failing the track.

1st           Frances Ball and ALICE ON SPRINGS (Lab) 192pts. COM. Alice worked hard for 20 minutes to get around the track finding two of the articles and then brought four articles out of the square, lovely dog, congratulations on a well deserved win.

2nd         Fran Mitchell and RENDALE ROBIN (Lab) 191pts. NQ. Winston flew around the track finding three articles with a confident Fran following behind him and then four out of the square. Unlucky with your stay but well done I am sure he will qualify next time. Best TD track trophy.

3rd          Lol Campbell and WHILEYS MOONBEAM (WSD) 187pts. NQ. Fyn set off with his nose glued to the ground, very positive track finding the first and third article, nicely handled by Lol who spotted the second article. Another dog to recover four out of the square, well done.

4th          John Phillips and JENSIL BLAKATO BOUNTY (GSD) 186.5 pts. NQ. This Shepherd slowly worked his way around the track, struggled on the last two legs but recovered and found his third article. Three out of the square, well done.

Finally, thanks must go to the competitors for their good sportsmanship when their dogs failed the nosework, best of luck for your future trials.
