Whitby, Open Trial
- Open Trial
- Trial Held: 18 February 1990
TRIALS MANAGER'S REPORT
Weather conditions varied from warm sun to thick mist and rain showers, all accompanied by strong wind. Tracking was on rough moorland and control & agility on sheep-grazed grass.
Having now untwisted my arm, can I now say thank you to everyone who helped with the Trial, to Peter and Janice Trott for making us all so welcome at Ugthorpe Lodge: to the farmers and landowners: the judges - Bob Lynch (TD), Jimmy Rowntree (WD), Mike Feltham (UD), Alan Bolton (CD)
and Bob Wait (CIA) for their expertise and good company, to the competitors for giving us such a good entry - so much so that we needed an extra judge for CD (18). I doubt if Alan will ever volunteer again until the jokes about the contents of his parcel have been forgotten!
Very grateful thanks to all the tracklayers and stewards who I know will be mentioned in the Judge's reports and also to Jimmy Rowntree, Alan Bolton, Alan French and Paul Deacy who marked out the moorland before the Trial. A special thank you to Sherry Rowntree for making all the flags for the moo poles - amazing what wives/husbands of trials people get ‘volunteered' for, isn't it!
The Committee members worked incredibly hard to make this Trial a success and it was a real privilege to be part of such a team. The flowers were a lovely surprise, thank you Jimmy, Allen, Alan, Margaret S. , Margaret J. and Joyce.

I would like to thank the NECWTS for inviting me to judge the Control and Agility. The gale force winds made it extremely difficult for the handlers and dogs, it was very gratifying for Val and I to be thanked by every competitor as they complete their work, we would like to wish them success in future Trial:
Judge: MIKE FELTHAM
Tracklayers: Allan French, Paul Deacy (DC), Damien Chadwick, to whom I am very grateful for their effort:
Steward: Jan Ormiston
My thanks to Jim Rowntree and the Committee of the NECWTS for inviting me to judge the UD stake of this trial.
Jan, my wife, and I enjoyed our weekend at Ugthorpe your hospitality was first class. It was great to be amongst old and new friends.
The weather was the only unpleasant aspect, very strong winds did their best to upset the competitors, whom I must add all competed with tremendous spirit.
A straightforward track shape became quite a test for the dogs in the prevailing conditions.
1st. (186) I. Campbell with TAB (WSD) A very well run track in difficult conditions. The miss of one article in the square, perhaps cost you the Best Track and Search. Good luck for the future. C of M.
2nd. (183) A. Grace with SAM (GSD) The young 'Mr. Grace', I think, suffered the worst of the weather conditions, very strong gusting winds, Sam made it look easy, to earn you second place. C of M.
3rd. (178) L. Doyle with VASAN (WSD) A very steady tracking dog well handled, a strong prospect for the future. Well done for spotting the end of track article. Every little bit helps. C of M.
4th. (176) J. Watts with THAW (GSD) A very well worked track, again in difficult wind conditions. Only two articles from the square, cost you a higher position. C of M.
Also gaining Certificates of Merit - very well done
5th. (170) D. Todd with ABBEY (LABRADOR)
6th. (165) D. Shaw (owned by C. C. Durham Constabulary) with JACK(GSD)
7th. (161) A. Dawson with JAZZ (GSD)
Best Track and Search
My congratulations to Maureen Keel with TICKO (STANDARD SCHNAUZER) for gaining the highest mark, of 142, for the track and search. I was very impressed with the way your dog set about the task in hand. Best of luck with your efforts in the control side of Trials, all will come good.
