Steward : Jean Horseman square and control
Many thanks to the North West WTS for the invitation to judge and to Jenny Holt and her team who looked after us so well and made this super friend trial run like clockwork. Thanks especially to Jean Horseman, my steward for the whole competition who was good company and gave every competitor the chance to show how good their dog could be. The standard of work overall was very high, especially the tracking on good but short grass, unfortunately the jumps taking a heavy toll. However we had 5 worthy qualifiers and all the others were so nearly there, keep up the training. Thank you everyone, competitors and workers, for a very enjoyable 3 days.

Many thanks to North West Working Trials Society for the invitation to judge the nosework and the C&A at their open trial in November. A big thank you to all the kitchen staff for keeping us well fed all week and not forgetting the back room staff at the base, no trial could run without you people. I would like to say a special thanks to the main people with which no trial could do without, my team of tracklayers, Jenny, Ricky, Graham and Alan, you were brilliant and to Kim Astbury for getting very one to their tracks on time. My square steward Dave Bell a great guy to have along side you. Thanks to the competitors for allowing me to judge you and your dogs. Thanks go to Carrol Hall for being a good sport on the way to your track!
North West always has nice lush grass to track on and this year was no different. The weather could have been better, we had light rain, very heavy rain, snow, frost and cold winds, with a little sun as well.
The tracking over all was very good with a lot of teams getting around and finding three articles. The search squares proved a little bit more of a problem with only four teams recovering all four articles.
The control round was very short and straight forward and very basic but had mixed results losing quite a few teams which was disappointing as they had done the hard bit on the nosework. The stays took place in strawberry wood just to save all the teams climbing back and to through the barbed wire fence three or four times. At the end of the week we had three teams on the same points with the winner being there on the last day avoiding a run off. Second place going to the team with the best track.
Well done to all the qualifier.
