Working Dog of the Year
Judge: DOUG SHEARER
Tracklayers: John Gray and John Hood
Steward: Sheila Shearer
Each year Scottish handlers are invited to apply points to their qualifications and placings in Working Trials over the previous 12 months. The top six handlers are then invited to compete in a "TD Championship" type competition for the title of "Scottish Working Dog of the Year".
Many thanks to my tracklayers and steward, to John Gray (Trials Manager), and to Brian Glasgow and his Grangemouth Dog Training Cub, who share the base and provide canteen facilities to match Gordon Ramsay – their only "F" word is "food".
Overnight, it was wet, but on the day dry, warm and almost windless weather ensured good results. The dogs competing were all young and relatively inexperienced, having just qualified to enter TD stakes.
1st Ann Bedford and ABBY, 204.5. Quiet, competent handling of a very ladylike dog secured this win.
2nd Stevie Braithwaite and BRECK, 203.5. Stevie struggles to keep control of this large, exuberant dog, but when they get everything together it turns out well.
3rd Jenny Beaton and JED, 192. Competent in every exercise, just needs to tidy up to increase the marks.
