Open Trial
Venue: Airth
Trial Held: 16 September 2007

Stake: CD

Judge: JOHN HOOD

Steward: Kirsty

I would like to thank the SKC for the invitation to judge, and also to thank Kirsty for stewarding. She stood in at the last minute, and it was her first time too.

It was a wet day, with a lot of rain. I only had three dogs to judge, and they were three good dogs.

1st     Mr S Hirst with TRIJEM TRUEBLUE COWBOY OF AUAWAGA, ASD. A good solid round, with an experienced handler making all the difference. 82.5, Q.

2nd   A Alonzi with GLEN VD SCHOENDERBEER HOEVE, Weim. Almost there, but did not enjoy the conditions. Better luck next time. 68.5, NQ.

3rd   David Gilliland with GLENSBURGH STELLA HEMES. Lovely round; hardly lost a mark apart from the jumps and the down stay. 56.5, NQ.

Stake: UD, WD, TD Control and Agility

Judge: DOUG SHEARER

Stewards: Helen Kelly (Sat), Debbie McKay (Sun)

Many thanks to SKC for the invitation, and to John Gray for managing the trial in his own inimitable way. Thanks also to Betty Calderwood for holding the base together on her own, to my stewards for competence and camaraderie, to all helpers of whatever variety, and to the competitors for keeping bright in difficult conditions. It was a small but warm trial.

The field was 8” – 12” grass, which made vision difficult for small dogs. Saturday was dry and breezy, and Sunday wet and still. It was the conditions, not the tests, which limited the qualifiers.

UD

1st     Mary Edgar with KIPCROFT LEX, BC, B, 180.5, Q. A real team effort, ideally suited.

2nd   Stevie Braithewaite with NORSHEP BRECK, GSD, D, NQ. Good partnership, but robbed by no sendaway.

3rd   Bill Mackie and TYGUARD ANDIS, GSD, D, NQ. A young keen dog with a keen handler. A little more control on the jumps would not go amiss.

4th    Sheena Kerr with DEARBHAIL CAILIN, GSD, B, NQ. Everything’s in place, just needs practice.

WD

1st     Hilary Morris with CARISHILL PARSLEY, GR, D, NQ.

2nd   Helen Kelly with LAETARE DYAMI, BC, D, NQ.

3rd   Jonathon Massheder with PENTLAND VITHFARI, GSD, D, NQ.

4th    Frank Glancy with MISTERGEES COOL JAZZ, GSD, D, NQ.

TD

1st     Roy Drummer with MOSSDEW DELTA FORCE, FCR, D, 199/220, Q. This pair should be married. Definitely the best Flatcoated Retriever that I have seen.

2nd   Katy Whittemore with DEVILSBECK MUSTANG, GR, D, 186/220, Q. Nice, quiet and completely competent handling of a lovely dog.

3rd   Moira Rogerson and SELDOMSEEN TWIST, WSD, B, NQ. Young gal that needs some time.

4th    Stan Banks with Alan Bolton’s NORSHEP SHADOW, GSD, D, NQ. Stan looks to be doing a good caretaker job during Alan’s recuperation.

Stake: UD and WD Nosework

Judge: SHEILA SHEARER

Tracklayers: UD, Brian Glasgow and John Hood; WD, Derek and John Hood

Stewards: UD, Jenny Beaton; WD, Lisa (I’ve never done this before!)

My thanks to John Gray, the Trials Manager, and to Betty Calderwood, a stalwart at this trial; without her welcome it would not be the same. Thanks also to Sue Glasgow for the food.

My tracklayers and stewards were great company – thank you, folks.

UD

The weather was still and dry. Tracking was on stubble, not undersown.

1st     Mary Edgar with KIPCROFT LEX, BC, B, 180.5, Q. Super little bitch - the dog, that is! Great sympathetic handling, learning all the time. Very impressive. Well done.

2nd   Stevie Braithewaite with NORSHEP BRECK, GSD, D, 148.5, NQ. Missed the C/A by a mark. A young bitch, her nosework was very enthusiastic, and she pulled Stevie round the track at a rate of knots! Your qualification will come soon.

3rd   Bill Mackie and TYGUARD ANDIS, GSD, D, 125.5, NQ. A super young dog; in your hands, Bill, it’s only a matter of time.

4th    Sheena Kerr with DEARBHAIL CAILIN, GSD, B, NQ. A rescue dog who could not find a better home than with Sheena. Given more experience for your dog she will get there..

WD

The weather was hellish – wind, rain, rain, horizontal rain, more wind…. what can you say? Rain stopped play. The conditions for these young dogs were just TOO difficult.

1st     Hilary Morris with CARISHILL PARSLEY, GR, D, NQ. A good stab at the test. Yes, he is a good dog – you made a wise decision.

2nd   Helen Kelly with LAETARE DYAMI, BC, D, NQ. Lovely keen dog; you will both do well.

3rd   Jonathon Massheder with PENTLAND VITHFARI, GSD, D, NQ. A rescue dog. Did a great square – 35 – everything I like to see. The conditions were just too hard.

4th    Frank Glancy with MISTERGEES COOL JAZZ, GSD, D, NQ. You will both do well in the future, with a lovely attitude from you both. Good luck.
