Macmerry, Open Trial
- Open Trial
- Venue: MacMerry
- Trial Held: 06 October 2013
Judge: TOM MILLS
Steward: Liz Mills
Firstly I would like to start by thanking SWTS for the invitation to judge at this trial and to June McPhillips for her hard work as Trials Manager. Thanks also to Helen and Patricia on the base desk, and Cath and David in the kitchen. My wifey, Liz, stewarded the search squares and the C/A and I thank her for that. Also thanks to the farmers for providing the grass fields for us to use.
The weather was fine, with a moderate breeze. We did all the search squares first, followed by the C/A round, which included the retrieve, and finished with group stays. Out of the 4 competitors, 2 qualified (COM) the stake.
Finally I would like to thank the competitors for entering. You were all a pleasure to judge and I hope you enjoyed your day and had fun, even if it didn’t quite all go according to plan. Although, as your results show, you all achieved a good standard. So keep up the training and to those of you who missed out this time, I wish you better luck another day.
4 entries, 4 ran
1st Patricia Templeton, FRANKIE THE FLYER, X-Breed, 92.5, Q COM. As the results show, a very good all round performance, just with a bit of hiccup on the first attempt on the long jump. Well done! And congratulations on a well-deserved qualification. Retrieve 10, Square 3 for 19.5, Control 45.5, Agility 17.5.
2nd John Tait, PINFOLD TYG LAST CHANCE, WSD, 89.5, Q COM. Another good all round performance, just slight blips with the heelwork and the first attempt on the long jump. Congratulations on a well-deserved qualification. 9.5, 3 for 19.5, 43, 17.5.
3rd Christine Chilton, SMARTIE PRIDE OF ARRAN, Cocker Spaniel, 79.5, NQ. Another good all round performance with a couple of blips with the heelwork and the first attempt on the long jump, but sadly missed out today due to the down stay. 9.5, 3 for 19, 33.5, 17
4th Jane Rintoul, SILBERSTERN WATER BUOY, Weimaraner, 69.5, NQ. Good control round let down a bit by the heel free and sendaway, but the long jump and scale proved too problematic today. 8, 3 for 19. 37.5, 5.
Judge: TOM MILLS
Track layers: Jimmy Scott, Lorraine Wilson
Steward: Liz Mills
Firstly I would like to start by thanking SWTS for the invitation to judge at this trial and to June McPhillips for her hard work as trials Manager. Thanks also to Helen and Patricia on the base desk, and Cath and David in the kitchen.
My Track layers were Jimmy Scott and Lorraine Wilson, who both did a flawless job. My steward for the day was my wifey, Liz, who did the Search Squares and the C/A. All of you were great company and a pleasure to work with and I thank you for that. Thanks also to the farmers for providing the stubble for us to use.
The weather was fine, with a moderate breeze. The stake started with the nosework in the morning followed by the C/A in the early afternoon. Out of the 7 competitors, 4 qualified on the nosework section, with all 7 getting 3 or 4 articles out of the square. After the C/A exercises 2 went on to qualify the overall stake.
Finally I would like to thank the competitors for entering and allowing me to judge you. And for those of you who suffered from the odd hiccup, keep up the training and I wish you better luck another day
7 entries, 7 ran
1st Jenny Wood, FORGUECROFT TOP GUN, GSD, 191, Q. As the results show a very good around performance, just with a hiccup on the 1st attempt on the clear jump. Well done! Track 87.5, articles 20, square 4 for 33, Control 34, Agility 16.5.
2nd Derrick , DUVESSA VIOLET QUEEN, Min Bull Terrier, 188, Q. A very nice track, until Derrick and Meg gave us a slight scare on the last corner. A couple of blips with the first attempts on the clear and the long jumps but held it together on the scale. Congratulations, a well-deserved qualification. 87.5, 20, 4 for 33.5, 33, 14.
3rd Shirley Windsor, HIELAN LADDIE OF AVAWAGA, Australian Shepherd, 180.5, NQ. A very nice track; a bit of dropping of articles going on in the square from both Shirley and Flash. The heelwork and retrieve went a little pear-shaped, but the jumps proved to be costly. 89.5, 20, square 4 for 32, 27.5, 11.5.
4th Andrew Rintoul, SILBERSTERN BLUE, Weimaraner, 163.5, NQ. A very nice track; shame about the missed article in the square. But the control and agility exercises let you down today. 88.5, 20, 3 for 26.5, 19, 9.5.
STAKES: WD AND PD
Judge: TRACEY PARK
Firstly I would like to thank SWTS for the invitation to judge the WD Stake at their open trial. Also I would like to thank the following:- Trials Manager, June McPhillips, Helen in the base, kitchen staff, and
Tracklayers: Ann Bedford and Jimmy Scott
Steward: Kath Gordon
Thanks to my square and control steward and my tracklayers who all gave up their time - many thanks, much appreciated.
Tracking was on stubble (nice looking stubble – if that kind of thing exists!!), and it was a nice day - the sun was shining.
Control was in the usual grassed area. I set a simple straight forward test - in my opinion, that is. We had no qualifiers in WD but I did see some fantastic work by a few teams on the day
1st Lorraine Wilson and LEEFSIDE WHIZZ KID (Milly), 174, NQ. Only team to complete the track, but Milly had her loony head on for the C/A – hard lines Lorraine.
2nd Jackie Hilton and GOOSECREEK CHINOOK (Sonic), 145.5, NQ. A good effort, you are defo becoming a team.
3rd Joyce Watson and CILINTON CEIL (Ceilidh), 139.5, NQ. Another great effort, you’ve come a long way.
4th Jim McKay and BERRYLEY BERGEN (Midge), 67.5, NQ. Not really Midge’s best day!
Thanks for allowing me to judge your dogs, was a pleasure to see them work.
Tracklayers: David McPhillips
Steward: Julz F (aka Sally Slap Cabbage)!
Criminals: Iain Forrest and his pal Brian
Thanks to tracklayer David and to Julz, my wonderful sidekick steward ;-). The two criminals were super and extremely good crack. They all gave up their time and was much appreciated.
Tracking was on stubble and it was a nice day for it. In fact weather stayed rather good for the time of year up in Scotland!!
1st Joan Miller and WOOLSHAN JAGER (Tyler), 294, Q. A good all round performance. A well-deserved qualification and win.
2nd Martyn Willcock and MURPHY MAGNUS LUMMOX (Murphy), 171, NQ. I know how much you love your PD and am sure you and the wonderful Murphy will get there.
I thoroughly enjoyed judging the PD stake, just simply in my element.
(PD track pattern the same as WD)
Judge: JENNY HOLT
Tracklayer: Derek McAulay
Steward: Diane Higgins
Thanks are due to June McPhillips and all her team for an enjoyable weekend. Although it was cloudy on occasions the rain kept away and the sun kept with us for most of the time. The swirling wind over the stubble, or perhaps the abundance of wildlife, did however take its toll on the tracking, the second day in particular, but then that’s trialling!!
Thanks are due to Derek for laying all the tracks and for going the extra mile to help competitors finish on a good note. Also to Diane who laid all the squares and stewarded competitors around the C/A.
Eight competitors entered, six dogs ran, of which one qualified.
1st Julie Findeisen with BANDAITCH DIRTY HARRY, X-Breed, CDEx – WDEx, 188, Q. Also won the TD Track and Search Trophy, being the only dog to finish the track and find the three articles. A super young ‘no nonsense’ dog who is no doubt a joy to own. Well done, Julz.
2nd John Gray with his Working Sheepdog WAGGERLAND WELLS, NQ. Struggled to get half way round the track but persevered and put himself back on track on a few occasions. Another young dog with potential.
3rd Rosemary Smyth with BEELAHOLT KEZZY BEAST, CDEx – WDEx, NQ. A good C/A round with a full point diagonal sendaway. Despite trying hard, however, on the second day tracking conditions were not in his favour.
4th Martyn Wilcock with LUCY THE LAWLESS OF LANCS, CDEx – WDEx, WSD, NQ. Lucy had a great time and was over enthusiastic about all her exercises, except the track, which proved too difficult. The only dog to get all four articles out of the square.
