Gorebridge, Open Trial
- Open Trial
- Venue: Gateside
- Trial Held: 15 March 2009
Judge: JACKIE SUCKLING
Steward: Stevie Braithwaite
Thank you to SWTS for the invitation to judge my first CD stake at Gorebridge. Congratulations to Gwen Matear, Trials Manager, for running a very enjoyable trial. To everybody at the base, June and David McPhillips, Betty Calderwood and the kitchen staff for keeping us well fed and watered – thank you. And a big thank you to Stevie Braithwaite for laying the search squares and stewarding for me, making sure everything ran smoothly, and for putting the competitors at ease.
We had 11 entries, with 10 dogs working on the day. The weather wasn’t kind to us, with what seemed like gale force winds at times, and the wet ground underfoot made walking difficult. Despite these conditions, all 10 dogs got the three articles out of the square and completed the nosework with qualifying marks. Control came next, starting with heel on lead, followed by recall then heel free. Then the jumps, clear, long and scale, in that order, with second attempts given for all. Only one dog got full marks on the jumps, and one dog was on 19. The stays came last, with seven out of ten dogs completing the sit stay, and all the dogs were successful in the down. We had 4 worthy qualifiers.
1st Mrs S Dunn and SIEGERSON NAPOLEON, GSD, D, 88.5. Sharon and Kai worked steadily through the test, and I still don’t think Sharon believed they had qualified. Congratulations and good luck for the future.
2nd Mrs C Savage and GLENLOXLEY STAR WIZARD, BC, 88. If Cheryl was nervous it didn’t show, and Brock completed the tasks well, just half a mark behind the winner. Congratulations and good luck in CDEx.
3rd Mrs L Cottier and ADDRESS TO A HAGGIS, X-breed, 84. An experienced handler with a new dog in trials, and a well deserved 3rd place. Congratulations and good luck in CDEx.
4th Mr J Tait and PINFOLD FLY, BC, B, 82. This was John’s first trial with Fly and he handled this little dog well and, despite the conditions, managed a well deserved 4th place. Congratulations and good luck in CDEx.
On a final note, Derek McAuley and David McPhillips had put the jumps up the day before – thank you. Competitors were asked if they would come and lend a hand to take the jumps down. I would like to give a big thank you to the following: Stevie Braithwaite, Maureen Aitchison, Dorothy Smith, Jo Moulin, Lorna Cottier, Sharon Dunn and myself for walking up and down the hill carrying planks, jumps and poles.
