Trials Manager’s Report

Who would believe the main street in Beeford, nowhere near a river or a stream, could flood, but yes that’s what happened in June 2007. We were told it was the drains which couldn’t take the amount of rain which descended on the village, the result being that the village hall could not be used for our trial in December - it is still drying out. Fortunately the community of Beeford did not want to let us down and found another base, rather smaller, but very cosy.

Our thanks once again goes to our farmers, the Blanchards, always so obliging, nothing is too much trouble.

I would like to thank the people who volunteer their help every year at this trial, they are: Tracklayers, Pete Hodgkins, Tom Darby, Andrea Lynd, Neil Symons, Jeff Margreaves, Suzanne Plumb, Dave Skipp; Stewards, Pat Hodgkins, Anne Bedford, Sheila Margreaves, Karon Tiffany, Glenys Page, Jenny Olley. Manning the base were Jan Darby and Mary Hardacre in their usual efficient manner. Keeping everyone fed and watered were Julia and Dave Skipp, and the donations of cakes, soups and chocolates as well as raffle prizes were very much appreciated.

Lastly I would like to thank the competitors who were kind enough to send cards etc thanking Glenys and me for running an enjoyable trial, despite the usual inclement weather, which we resign ourselves to at this time of year, and we hope to see you all again in December 2008.

Stake: CD

Square and C/A Steward: Jenny Olley

Gate Stewards: Lorraine Wilson and Anne Bedford

Stay stewards: Sheila Margraves, Lorraine Wilson and Anne Bedford

Thank you to YWTS for this invitation to judge, to trials manager Brian Page and his assistant Glenys, and all the helpers in the base. Thanks also to my steward Jenny, and my gate stewards Anne and Lorraine, who ensured competitors were in the right place at the right time, vital at this time of year with 21 out of 23 competing and short daylight hours.

The standard of teams was very high, with a mixture of experienced handlers and those competing for the first time; this was reflected in the 11 teams qualifying.

We started with the nosework; all teams qualified in this section, with the majority of the dogs getting three articles from the square. We then went straight into the C/A.

1st Cath Philips with TYGUARD CHILLI AT MANPOL, (GSD), 97.5. A polished performance from this experienced handler, would not be out of place on a TD control round.

2nd Anita Farr-Varney with CROESLLWYN STREAK OF LIGHT, (WSD), 93. Good nose work was followed by a tidy C/A round.  She seemed delighted in the base, when she realised how well she’d done.

3rd Polly Thomas with POLLGINA GLADYS GLADSOME (LAB) 91.5.  A good qualifier from this experienced competitor.

4th Tracey-Lee Sinfield with LOCHFAIN NOW LADY BRENNA, (Gordon Setter) 89.  A confident performance from this first time handler.  This team cleared the square in 35 seconds.

Also qualifying CDEx-

Lisa Coull with CALLISEA SCARCITY, (Weim), 88

Carol Robertshaw with KENMILQUIN APPOINTMENT, (GSD), 87

Graham Brumpton with TAFFY GO LUCKY, (X-Breed), 85

Hayley Philipson with POPLARTIME MYSTICAL MUSIC, (Great Dane), 84.5

Irene Seymour with OAKENHEART JUST AN ILLUSION, (GSD), 84.5

Tracklayers: Jill Carruthers Suzanne Plumb , Dave Skipp

Steward: Ann Bedford

Thanks to the Yorkshire Working Trials for inviting me to judge UDEx.  I had a great weekend and the company was good.  Thanks to the Trials Manager, Brian Page, and his great band of helpers in base and outside. The weather was very windy, particularly on the first day when you could hardly stand up, a little better the next day. Thanks to my tracklayers Jill, Suzanne and Dave. Also my steward Ann for squares and control.  I would also like to thank the competitors for entering.  I hope you all enjoyed it, and good luck in the future.

1st Julia Findeison and TOLBERG JUMPING JACK, (GSD, D), 199, Q UDEx.  Very good track, only lost half a point, 2 articles and a full mark square.  Control again very good, only lost half mark, and full mark jumps. Well done and good luck in the future.

2nd Mrs Rosie Robson and CORBY CRAGS KIZZY, (Lab x Poodle, B), 183.5, Q UDEx.  Nice track with 2 articles and 3 out of the square.  Good. Control and full mark jumps.  Well done.

3rd Rachel Young and SELDOMSEEN JUST MAYBE AT JARYSMYSTIC, (WSD, B), 154.5, Q UD.  Did very well on two thirds of the track, but only found one article. Excellent square, four out and full marks. Control good, just dropped half a mark, but did not get the clear on the jumps.  Well done.

4th E and Y Carpenter and HEX AT CARFELD, (BC, B), 153, Q UD.  Again just missed out on the track with 1 article, good square with 4 out.  On control she does everything at ninety mph, just dropped odd marks, lost 2.5 on the jumps.  Good luck in the future.

Thanks to YWTS for the appointment. Thank also to my tracklayers, three of the most experienced in the country – you did a fantastic job. My search steward, Pat – you were brilliant to work with; thank you so very much for your company. Ann, my C/A steward – you made my job so easy with your easy approach. Thank you to all the competitors; it was a pleasure to spend Christmas with you. I hope you enjoyed my test as much as I enjoyed judging it.

1st          Barry Gilbert, WTCh LAETARE DAY JAVU, BC, 215. Your tracking was a pleasure to watch. You lost only 3 on the track, had a full mark square, and just lost 2 on the control. What a champion!

2nd        Mrs Anne Fowler, WTCh WAGGERLAND FLOSS, BC, 208. You set the standard in the tracking field in the wind, losing just 3.5 on the track, with a full mark square. The control was the difference between first and second. Well done.
