Open Trial
Venue: West Bretton
Trial Held: 05 April 2009

CD, UD, WD, TD Stakes

Steward: Janine Atkinson

My thanks to Yorkshire Working Trials Society for asking me to judge at such a nice well run trial. After a long while away from judging for health reasons it was lovely to do this CD open, and I enjoyed seeing the handlers and dogs, some of them just starting out in trials.

Thanks to the team who did such a good job of running the trial, headed by Dave Stewart, and ably assisted by Sheila and Jeff Margreaves, also to Sheila and Margaret Welham at the base, and a special thanks to Liz Stewart and the lady who was helping with the food - I ate far more than I should have done, but it was just too tempting.

Thank you to all the helpers who made the trial so enjoyable and most of all thanks to Janine my steward; she did everything I asked of her and more. Finally thanks to a great bunch of competitors - you all accepted my decisions, and to the ones who didn’t qualify I would like to say, “Keep on with the training.” All of the dogs had the ability there and I am sure that pretty soon they will be ready to qualify and move up the stakes.

The weather was good to us for the time of year and it stayed fine but breezy.

1st Dr Eva Robards with TARNEDGE COLUMBINE, Lab/Ret, Q, 93.5. This dog worked an excellent round and Eva handled her really well - one to watch out for in the higher stakes very soon. Good luck for the future to you both

2nd Miss Bridget Montague with KLIPPER RIVER HARMONY, Lab/Ret, Q, 89.5. Bridget has worked long and hard to achieve this qualification and in the end she did it in style. Well done, Bridget, I am sure you will soon be going up the stakes.

3rd Mrs Susan Hanson with ROCLAIRE AURIOLE ATHENA, K Griffon, Q, 86.5. Apart from a little more work on the heelwork this dog worked a faultless round. Going down from the sit stay cost her a higher place, but once she gets that sorted this team will be superb.

4th Angela Moslin with GREAT ARAMIS OF DARK BRIGHTNESS OVER WILDFIRE, BSD (Groen), 80.5, NQ. Just the nosework cost this team a qualification, but a little bit more work and they will be soon there. Best of luck.

Stewards: Glenys Page, Karen Tiffany

A big thank you to YWTS for the invitation to judge the UD nosework at West Bretton. Special thanks to Sheila and Jeff Margreaves for all their hard work and hospitality, and to Dave Stewart for running another excellent trial. To the ladies at the base, Margaret Welham and Sheila - thank you for sorting out all my scores. My tracklayers for three days, Richard, Donna and Eric, thank you all for your hard work and good company – it was a pleasure to be with you. Last but not least, thanks to my steward, Lisa, for laying all the squares for three days.

1st Pat Herbert, GLENALPINE MOO. Track 90 + 20, square 35. What can I say? The marks say it all – first class nosework from a dog destined for the top.

2nd Dave Marchant, MISTER BEAMISH. 90 + 20, 33. Another dog with a very bright future, confidently handled by Dave.

3rd Kath Woolley, ANDSAI EYE CATCHER AT DUNSA. 90 + 20, 33. Another excellent nosework performance. Good luck for the future.

Tracklayers: Andrea Lynd and Eric Carpenter

Steward: Lorraine Wilson

Firstly I would like to thank Yorkshire for asking me to judge the WD nosework - I really had a great time. I would also like to thank Dave Stewart, trials manager, for getting us such beautiful fields and for running a great trial. Thanks also to Sheila and Jeff Margreaves for their help in the smooth running of the trial, and to Margaret Welham for help at base; and to the ladies in the kitchen for the great food which kept us going all weekend.

I was very, very lucky having two of the best track layers you could hope for, Andrea Lynd and Eric Carpenter, who aren’t only great track layers but also very good company. Next I must thank my very smelly square steward, Lorraine Wilson, who laid all squares perfectly - all but two dogs got four out of the square - and not only is she smelly she is a lovely lady to spend time with. Lastly I would like to thank all competitors for entering under me and accepting my decisions.

1st Dave Olley and LITTLE RAYMOND, X Breed, D 196, Q. A lovely track and square, the only disappointment was that more people didn’t watch it.

2nd Rachael Young and SELDOMSEEN JUST MAYBE AT JARYSMYSTIC, WSD, B, 192, Q. Another nice track, this team did more angles than anyone else, and then followed it with a full point square. Well done.

3rd Polly Thomas and POLLGINA GLADYS GLADSOME, Lab, B, 190.5, Q. Well done. Maggie and Polly were the only ones to get round the track with both articles when the wind was at full force, but Maggie never noticed anything but the track.

4th David Cutler and CALLISAE MYTEE MAJESTIC, Weim, B, 179.5. Lovely dog, and a pleasure to watch her track. Well done.

Tracklayers: Damian Chadwick, Brian Page, Graham Reaney

Search Steward: Teresa Musgrave

Thank you to Yorkshire for the invitation to judge TD nosework. Also to Dave Stewart and his excellent team of helpers, Sheila and Margaret at the base, Liz and Doreen in the kitchen, who kept us well fed throughout the Trial. A big thank you to my tracklayers, Damian, Brian and Graham, and to Teresa, who did an excellent job laying the squares and was great company throughout the trial.

32 entered, 27 worked, 10 qualified

TD started on Friday, with conditions changing over the three days. Tracking was on winter wheat, sparse in places, with the fields dry for the time of year. It was a pleasure to judge some excellent tracking from a variety of breeds. Well done to all qualifiers, and good luck to all in future trials.

1st Mick Cammidge with WAGGERLAND SAM, CDEx – WDEx, BC, 209.5, Q. Well done Mick, Sam made light work of the conditions. Congratulations on your win, also winning Best Nosework Trophy.

2nd Graham Brumpton with TAFFY GO LUCKY, CDEx - WDEx, X/B, 206.5, Q. Another brilliant track and well handled. Well done.

3rd Heather Cook with THAMESPOL ISSIE, GSD, 206.5, Q. Another nice track and full mark search. Well done.

4th Julia Findeisen with TOLBERG JUMPING JACK, GSD, 204.5, Q. Zico started well only to get distracted by a donkey in the next field, but recovered well to finish the track. Another full mark square. Well done
