Firstly I would like to thank Midland Border Collie Club for the invitation to judge the UD Stake at their Open Trial. Also, I would like to thank Barrie James, the Trials Manager, who I thought ran a fantastic trial. Also thanks to Sue James at the base and for the photos; to Anne, Tony and Anna Fowler for putting Brook, Tyne, Alyssha and myself up for the 4/5 days we were there, and especially Anne for babysitting Alyssha for me the whole time I was there!!!! (She was worn out with 2 kids, haha). It is always a pleasure to stay with you’s, always feels like home from home and I am very grateful – x. My tracklayers and stewards were all brilliant and did a fantastic job, as well as great company.
The nosework was on grazed sheep fields, and on the whole was performed extremely well. The control and agility was very straight forward. We started with the heelwork, a straight forward sendaway out to a huge tree not very far away at all and then on to the jumps, before we did the down stay. Once the down stay was finished the competitors were called in one at a time to finish with the retrieve.
1st John Turtill and WAGGERLAND TAYOVULLIN, WSD, D, 189, Q. John and Tayo - what an absolute pleasure to watch and judge. You worked together as a team and I look forward to watching you progress through the stakes. A well deserved qualification and win.
2nd S. Burroughs and TARNEDGE VELVET, Lab Ret, B, 179.5, Q. Another team to qualify on good marks, although a bit of messing in the square did cost you a lot of handling marks.
3rd Martyn Wilcock and LUCY THE LAWLESS OF LANCS, WSD, B, 171.5, Q. Well done Martyn and Lucy. Overall a good performance, just a couple of things to tidy up and you could be winning some of these stakes.
4th Paul Thornton and LIMASMYTHE BROWNS BUSTER, GSD, D, 170, Q. A delightful pair to judge, sendaway wasn’t so good today but I am sure it was just a one-off.
Best track went to W A Wright and WHISPER IN THE GLEN
Many thanks to all the competitors, it was a pleasure to judge your dogs; I had a great 3 days. Well done to those that qualified, and to those that didn’t there is always another day.
